What a trade URL is

Steam lets people send you trade offers with a trade URL instead of a friend request. The URL includes a token bound to your account. Anyone who has the current URL can open Steam’s offer composer toward you. That is convenient for marketplaces. It is also why you should treat the string as sensitive even though it is not a password, cookie, or API key.

Steam’s own explanation is here: Trade offers and trade URL. Follow Steam for how to copy, reset, or restrict offers. This page only explains the CSGOEmpire context.

Why CSGOEmpire may ask

Counter-Strike deposits are player-to-player. Official help for depositing CS items says new users may need to enter a trade URL so the site can fetch inventory. Without a working offer target, other players cannot complete the Steam trade that settles a listing.

You enter that URL on csgoempire.com, typically in the Steam deposit flow at /deposit/steam. You do not send it to a person in chat. You do not type it into csgoempire.help. Linking Steam and supplying a trade URL are related but not identical; see linking Steam.

If you are still creating an account, finish signup with MAX50 on the official referral URL, then add the trade URL only when the real site asks.

How to find it on Steam

Steam’s UI labels move. Use Steam Support’s FAQ as the live instructions. The usual idea is: open your Steam inventory, open trade offer settings, copy the URL Steam shows for third-party offers. Do not download a “trade URL extractor” from a forum.

  1. 1

    Open Steam yourself

Use the Steam client or a browser tab you typed. Do not follow a “click here to copy your trade URL” advertisement.
  2. 2

    Copy the URL Steam displays

Steam’s FAQ is the authority for the exact clicks. Confirm you are copying your URL, not someone else’s pasted example.
  3. 3

    Paste only on csgoempire.com

If the address bar is not the official operator host, do not paste. Phishing pages collect trade URLs to spam malicious offers.
  4. 4

Confirm inventory appears, then leave the string alone

You do not need to share it with “middlemen,” affiliates, or this website. Affiliates never need your trade URL to attach MAX50.

How leaking it causes trouble

A leaked trade URL does not, by itself, move items. Steam still requires you (or a compromised session) to accept the offer, and Steam Guard still sits on that confirmation when enabled. The practical harm is unwanted offers: lookalike item names, bait “your deposit is ready” trades, or pressure to confirm quickly.

That is why Steam security treats unexpected trades as hostile until you initiated them on the official marketplace. P2P timing — 30 minutes for auction trades, 12 hours for regular listings — is documented in trading. A random offer that arrives outside a listing you created is not “the 30-minute window.”

Inventory privacy settings can also block offers even with a URL. If CSGOEmpire cannot fetch items, check Steam’s FAQ and Steam won’t link rather than pasting the same URL into a second website.

When to generate a new one

Steam lets you create a new trade URL. The previous one stops working. Generate a new one if you pasted it into a chat, posted a screenshot of settings, used it on a site you no longer trust, or received a burst of offers you did not start. Then update it on csgoempire.com if the marketplace still needs it.

If the leak came with a fake login, skip URL rotation as your only step. Follow phishing and compromised account guidance, plus Steam’s phishing and hijacked accounts article.

FAQ

What is a Steam trade URL?
It is a personal link Steam issues so others can send you trade offers without adding you as a friend. Steam documents it in the trade offers and trade URL FAQ. It is not your password.
Why does CSGOEmpire ask for it?
Official Counter-Strike deposit help says new users may need to enter a trade URL so the site can fetch inventory for listings. Paste it only on csgoempire.com.
What happens if my trade URL leaks?
Other people can send you offers. That is not the same as emptying the account by itself, but unexpected offers are how many scams start. You can generate a new trade URL in Steam; old ones stop working.
Should I send my trade URL to Discord support?
No. Do not send it to anyone claiming to be CSGOEmpire or Steam staff in chat. CSGOEmpire support is on-site. This website will never ask for a trade URL either.
