Abstract item cards illustrating a missing-skin investigation

Frame the problem

“Missing skin” is several different events: you sent a deposit and coins never appeared; you withdrew and Steam never received the item; a trade reversed; or the inventory was stolen in a hijack. The trading guide explains intended P2P. This page is only the investigation order.

Do the investigation on Steam and csgoempire.com. A stranger who already “found” your knife in a screenshot from another site is not a data source.

Verification order

  1. 1

    Steam trade history first

Find the offer. Completed, cancelled, pending, or reversed are different endings. Note the other party and the items. If there is no Steam offer at all, the marketplace may never have matched a buyer — that is a listing problem, not a vanished item.
  2. 2

    CSGOEmpire pending / completed trades

Compare site state with Steam. If they disagree after timers (30 minutes auction send/confirm, 12 hours regular), you have something concrete for on-site support. If they agree that nothing completed, the skin should still be on the sending Steam account.
  3. 3

Check the sending inventory, not only the receiving one

P2P means two players. Deposit: your Steam sent, their Steam received. Withdraw: the reverse. Looking at only one inventory creates false “missing” reports.
  4. 4

Rule out a different Steam account

Family sharing confusion, an old login, and a second profile are mundane causes. Linking issues: Steam won’t link troubleshooting.
  5. 5

    Rule out theft vs marketplace

Unexpected trades, Guard prompts you did not start, or items leaving without a CSGOEmpire listing are compromise / phishing territory, not a pending withdraw.

Holds, reversals, disputes

Steam trade protection can delay or reverse settlement on the order of a week. CSGOEmpire documents trade tracking after 7 days for that reason, and discusses ~8 days in instant credit. A reversal is not the same as “support stole it.” Official P2P notes describe disputes up to 48 hours after a reversal — check the live article and site UI for how to open one. Do not wait on a Discord middleman.

Instant credit can make coins usable before Steam protection is finished. If a later reversal hits, balances and items can move again. That is documented risk of P2P-plus-credit, not a hidden fee this site invented.

When it is not actually missing

  • Wrong filter in Steam inventory (hide untradable, wrong game, storage units conceptually — CS2 storage is still Steam).
  • You looked at CSGOEmpire coins and expected the skin model to remain in an Empire locker. It does not; see skins.
  • The listing expired because nobody took it or the send window lapsed.

If verification still shows a completed Steam send without a matching site credit (or the reverse), use CSGOEmpire on-site support with the trade IDs you can see. Steam-side hijack recovery remains Steam Support: phishing and hijacked accounts. Sister checklists: deposit pending, withdrawal pending, trade problem.

FAQ

Did CSGOEmpire take the skin into a bot?
Official help describes P2P, not a site-owned bot warehouse. Check the other Steam account in the trade history, not a mythical house inventory.
Steam trade protection still running — is the item gone?
Not necessarily. Official CSGOEmpire notes discuss tracking after 7 days because of Steam trade protection, and instant credit mentions an ~8 day hold. Verify history before assuming theft.
Should I send remaining items to a restorer?
No. That is a continuation scam. Use Steam Support and CSGOEmpire on-site support only.
